As I’ve said before, learning a new language is hard, very hard, but if you go about it in the correct matter it doesn’t have to be so hard. In fact, I’ve found that my daily language learning lessons are quite fun. Especially, when you can tell that you’re getting better and learning new things.
How I learned a new language in a month
Just kidding here, I did not learn a whole new language in a month. But, in a months time you can make great strides in learning a new language. You can also learn just enough to get by if you decide to travel to a foreign country so that you won’t be totally lost when you get there.
It is completely feasible to learn general directions, greetings, and the basic words needed to be able to get by in a foreign country. Also, if your primary language is english, then you already have an advantage because many people in countries you might travel already know some english in order to communicate with tourists.
The secret powers of learning a new language
Well, it’s not like I’ve gained super powers or anything from learning a new language, but new mind powers? I think so.
When learning a new language it teaches your mind to make new connections through new words and different ways of formulating a sentence. It really is kind of strange, but I feel like from practicing a foreign language that I am not only making new pathways with both the new language and the old one, but that my brain has become better at making piecing things together and finding commonalities between words and other worldly objects.
It is my belief that everyone should at least try to learn a new language. If it seems to difficult for you and you are constantly getting frustrated then perhaps not, but on the other hand making your brain do these difficult exercises strengthens it and makes you more resilient, tougher.
So stick with it and you will see the benefits of learning a new language soon. One thing I highly recommend when practicing a foreign language or even just trying to improve your native language is to read and read a lot. Seeing new ways to put words together will help you in your own conversation and writing.
Also, pay attention to the meanings of things and think about what sentences might mean before you look them up. If you still don’t know what something means LOOK IT UP! Never let an unknown word or phrase pass you by. Once you’ve looked up the definition of a word or the meaning of a sentence it will be more likely to stick with you.
You can now use this new phrase or word in conversation and even if you don’t your mind will place it into your memory bank so it doesn’t stump you again.
Learning a new language expands your mind and makes us more versatile and worldly people. This is part of excellence.
I hope you participated and enjoyed learning a new language. If you have yet to start to learn a new language remember, “The best time to start was yesterday, the second best time to start is right now”
The language learning app I used is Duolingo, but it’s also important to use other forms of learning such as watching tv in a foreign language, listening to music, and reading.
